Trip overview
Depart from an Australia airport that’s closest to you for the world’s most unique day tour. Fly over the breathtakingly beautiful Antarctic region. See endless mountain ranges, mesmerising ice formations and some of the planet’s most unique scenery.
It’s a new era for Antarctica flights and the first opportunity to soar above the great white continent in a Qantas 787 Dreamliner. This means optimal views from windows that are 65% larger than other aircraft of this size. Also, Dreamliner’s lower cabin altitude mitigates the discomfort of long haul flights. USB charging ports and personal HD touch screens are also available for all seating classes, for those moments in between iceberg spotting.
To make the experience even more memorable, on board you’ll be able to toast your discovery with the full bar service, enjoy the signature meal services, hear from Antarctic explorers with live crosses to research stations and take home an Explorer Kit with all the maps and stats of special flight!
See the brochure for seat maps and frequently asked questions.

What to expect…
The flight provides a full day of Antarctic experience and from Australia ranges between 9,500 – 10,500 kms round trip (approximately 12.5 hours) depending on your departure city.
Expert Antarctic expeditioners are onboard to talk on the polar environment and its history while video screenings depict life on the ground.
Approximately three hours south of Australia, passengers will usually see the first scattered ice followed by dozens of icebergs and ice floes. Then cross the South Magnetic Pole, where you will start to view the rugged mountainous topography of the Antarctic mainland.
The flight route…
Whilst the flight will be over the Antarctica Treaty area for around 4 hours, approximately 3 – 4 hours will be spent flying over the Antarctic continent.
In planning the route, considerable time is taken to select the most spectacular area of Antarctica within aircraft range. The selected area will be chosen from 19 different flight plans, taking into account:
- Maximum viewing potential from both sides of the aircraft
- Maximum viewing over Antarctica
- Maximum variety in land mass scenery, including high mountains, glaciers, ice plateau and coastline
- The best possibility for viewing should weather conditions be adverse
