FLY TO NEW ZEALAND
Fly from Australia to Auckland. Pick up your hire car at Auckland airport and head north for your first night on the Bay of Islands.
BAY OF ISLANDS
The Bay of Islands encompasses over 140 islands in a beautiful, subtropical climate. The region is famous for its uncrowded beaches, Maori cultural heritage and big-game fishing. It’s also home to the 19th-century whaling port of Russell and today the waterfront is lined with reminders of its time as the country’s first colonial capital.
The seaside town of Paihia is your base for the week. It's an ideal gateway to the dive sites and sandy beaches of the Bay of Islands. There's also plenty to explore in the area, such as taking the trail that leads to the horseshoe-shaped Haruru Falls. You can head southwest of town for panoramic views from the Opua Forest Paihia Lookout Track. A carved meeting house, a museum and a giant Maori canoe mark the site of the founding of modern New Zealand at the Waitangi Treaty Grounds.

Today, check out of your accommodation in the morning and head back to Auckland Airport to drop off the hire car and board the departure flight to Australia.
