Borneo tour overview
In this week-long itinerary, you will explore the unique highlights of the world’s 3rd largest island. This includes sanctuaries for remarkable endangered creatures, like sun bears, elusive proboscis monkeys and of course the famous orang utans.
A day tour is also included Kinabalu National Park, which is Malaysia’s first World Heritage Site. The park is home to over 800 species of orchids, 600 species of ferns, 326 species of birds and has the world’s largest collection of insect-eating pitcher plants. Borneo has some of our planet’s most wildlife-rich equatorial rainforests, incredible landscapes (above and below the waves) and rich indigenous culture.

Fly to Borneo
At last, the day is here when it's time to board your flights to Borneo.
Arrive in Borneo
Upon arrival at Kota Kinabalu Airport, catch a taxi to hotel. The remainder of the day is free to explore Kota Kinabalu at leisure.
Kota Kinabalu City Tour
Discover the rich history and heritage of Kota Kinabalu on this comprehensive 3-hour city tour, including hotel pick-up. Visit landmarks like Wisma Tun Mustapha (Sabah Foundation Building) and the City Mosque. Pay a visit to the prestigious University of Sabah and tour the fascinating Sabah Museum. Finally, soak up views of Kota Kinabalu and the Likas Bay lagoon from the summit of Signal Hill.
Kinabalu National Park
After breakfast, you will drive to the foothills of Mount Kinabalu. En route, stop at a local vendor’s shops for refreshment breaks and to also sample the local produce.
Your first stop will be Poring Hot Springs, a popular destination for locals on the weekend and public holidays. There is a canopy walk, butterfly garden and orchid garden, which you will have time to explore. The canopy walk is a steep 15-minute walk to the start of the canopy, but views are magnificent. Continue onto Kinabalu National Park, where you will meet an experienced guide who will take us along trails in Malaysia’s first world heritage site. There are a few different options depending on your fitness level and interest. The mountain and its surroundings are among the most important biological sites in the world, with over 800 species of orchid, 600 species of ferns, 326 species of birds, and is the richest place in the world for the Nepenthes insectivorous pitcher plants (five of the thirteen are found nowhere else on earth). The tour returns to Kota Kinabalu and you have the evening at your leisure.
Kota Kinabalu to Sandakan
This morning, you will be transferred to Kota Kinabalu Airport in time for your included flight to Sandakan. On arrival, catch a taxi from the airport to your hotel and the remainder of the day is free to explore Sandakan.
Sepilok Orang Utan, Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey & Sun Bear Tour
Visit endangered orangutans in their natural habitat and discover the valuable work accomplished at Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre. Take a leisurely walk to the Sun Bear Conservation Centre. Then revel in joy as you encounter troops of a rare primate in the Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary.
Kinabatangan River Cruise
Experience the enchanting Kinabatangan River with an unforgettable river cruise. Don't miss this chance to create cherished memories amidst the natural wonders of the Kinabatangan River. Our driver will pick you up at 12:00 pm from your Sandakan hotel lobby (town area). Proceed to Kinabatangan River. Cruise along Kinabatangan River in search of some of the primate's species, including the endemic Proboscis Monkey, birds and others wildlife. Transfer back to your hotel in Sandakan.
Depart Borneo, Fly to Australia
Check out of your hotel in the morning. Transfer to Sandakan airport for your flights home to Australia.
