Petra - Wadi Rum
After breakfast, get ready to explore Petra, Jordan’s most famous attraction as well as one of the 7 New Wonders of the World! Start this visit to the Red Rose City with a horse ride through the canyon (Petra Seeq) to reach the Treasury Al Khazneh. Petra was built by the Arab Nabateans more than 2000 years ago making this ancient site one of the oldest cities in the world. In the afternoon, stop for lunch before heading to Wadi Rum. Here, explore the area’s spectacular mountains, Lawrence of Arabia’s cave and Lawrence’s dunes. Then, transfer to the Bedouin camp area and get ready for a night of camping under the stars in the Wadi Rum desert!
Included Experiences
Tour the famous Red Rose City of Petra: Embark on a guided tour of Petra with free time. Back in 300 BC, Petra was the capital of the prosperous Nabatean Kingdom. Swiss explorer Jean Louis Burckhardt famously wrote about it in his diary. “It's one of the most elegant remains of antiquity existing.” He penned this when he discovered the site in 1812. It's easy to see why - Petra is simply breathtaking. It is also known as the 'Red Rose City' due to the colour of the stone from which it was carved. However, the site is best known for its rock-cut architecture and water conduit system.
Sleep in a Bedouin camp in Wadi Rum: Sleep under the stars and experience the magic of the Wadi Rum desert with a night in a private, Bedouin-style camp. The nomadic tribes and clans of the Middle Eastern deserts are known as Bedouins. It’s in this very desert where Lawrence of Arabia fought alongside the Bedouins against the Ottoman Empire during WWI.
Wadi Rum - Madaba - Mt. Nebo - Dead Sea - Amman
Enjoy an early breakfast at the camp. Then, drive to the ancient town of Madaba, known for its 6th-century mosaic map of the Holy Land housed in the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George. Next, drive to Mount Nebo, an elevated ridge of the Abarim in Jordan, approximately 710 metres above sea level. It is mentioned in the Hebrew Bible as the place where Moses was granted a view of the Promised Land. After exploring Mount Nebo, head to the famous Dead Sea for lunch, a swim (or float!) and time to relax by these iconic, salty waters. At the end of the day, return to Amman for dinner. Overnight at your hotel.
Included Experiences
Explore Mount Nebo: According to the Old Testament, Mount Nebo is where Moses lived out his final days and saw the promised land. For this reason, Mount Nebo is a religious site of great importance. It also acts as a fantastic viewing platform from which to gain sweeping views of the Dead Sea and even Jerusalem on a clear day!
Step into the Dead Sea: The Dead Sea is actually not a sea at all, but a lake, around 30% of which is made up with salt. It is also the lowest place on earth, at 417 feet below sea level. The water's properties are said to cure various skin conditions. It may also relieve respiratory ailments. The lake's mud is used in spa treatments at the hotels along its shore. Please note: Entrance fee applies.

More about Jordan
- On the highest hill in Amman you'll find the Citadel. The hill was a fortress for thousands of year and archaeologists have found artefacts from the Bronze Age. Two of the most impressive remains are the Temple of Hercules and the Ummayad Palace.
- Wadi Rum is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in southern Jordan. The 74,000-hectare property is a rich and varied desert landscape of narrow gorges, dramatic cliffs, 20,000 rock carvings and a strong history of human occupation that dates back 12,000 years.
- The Dead Sea is actually a lake that's bordered by Jordan to the east and Israel and the West Bank to the west. The 'sea' sits 400 metres below sea level and the water is nearly 10 times more salty than most oceans. Aptly named because nothing can live in the water, that doesn't put off humans and bathing is must. The high salt levels make floating a breeze and the mineral-rich mud is believed to have therapeutic qualities that will make your skin shine!

MTE Traveller
Hi Leanne, Just letting you know what a wonderful trip we had! Our guides were amazing and very helpful. Our accommodation in both countries couldn't have been better and the buses were clean and air conditioned! We even had an opportunity to fly in a hot air balloon over the Valley of the Kings. The trip to Petra was awesome and the stay in the desert at Wadi Rum far exceeded our expectations . Thank you for organising such an adventure for us! Helen and John B.
