Japan has an extensive and very efficient rail network and this independent trip features the great train experience and most affordable way to get around. Japanese trains are clean, comfortable and as you’d expect, incredibly punctual. You can basically travel by train to almost everywhere that you’d want to visit and it’s really easy. Language is seldom a problem and stations have signs and departure boards in English as well as Japanese. The Japan Rail Pass offers unlimited travel on the JR Railway, selected buses and selected ferries for overseas visitors.
To start with, Tokyo will be your base for the 5 nights. From here you can use the rail pass to take exhilarating bullet train rides, explore vibrant cities, see UNESCO World Heritage-listed sites and enjoy scenic excursions.
Then travel by economy rail from Tokyo to Osaka, where the next 5 nights will be at a central Osaka hotel. Exciting days of exploration await, as you discover ancient temples, delicious dining and unique sights on an unforgettable holiday in Japan!

Upon arrival at Tokyo Airport, use your Japan Rail Pass to make your way to your hotel. The remainder of the day is free to start exploring the spectacular city.
Tokyo & Rail Pass
Your time is free to explore Japan’s busy capital city. Tokyo is a blend of the ultramodern and the traditional. Famous for its skyscrapers and neon-lit streets to its ancient temples. Meiji Shinto Shrine is known for its impressive gate and surrounding woods. The Imperial Palace sits amid large public gardens and the city's many museums offer exhibits ranging from classical art to a reconstructed kabuki theatre.
Make use of your Japan Rail Pass to take day trips and excursions to see more of the country. History lovers should head to Kanazawa. Karuizawa is a 70-minute journey from Tokyo along the Hokuriku Shinkansen line. There's also much to see and experience in Nagano, Shizuoka City, Nagoya, Yokohama, Atami, Takasaki and more!

It's time to catch the train to your next destination, Osaka. On arrival, make your way from the station to the central hotel, then enjoy exploring at your leisure.
Osaka & Rail Pass
Your hotel is located just a 1-minute walk from Ginza Itchome Station on the Yurakucho Line. It's the perfect location to use your rail pass to connect with other great sights and cities. Popular day trips include Kyoto (14 minutes by shinkansen), Nara (30 minutes by express train), Hiroshima (1.5 hours by shinkansen) and Kobe (14 minutes by shinkansen).
