DAY 2

Arrive in Amsterdam

Welcome to one of the world’s most vibrant cities. Amsterdam has so much to offer its visitors. From the picturesque canals and bridges to the rich culture, museums and nightlife, it is so easy to fall in love with this exciting city. Tonight’s welcome dinner will allow you to get acquainted with your fellow travellers in the lead-up to an epic rail tour adventure. After dinner, you are free to explore Amsterdam and all it has to offer.

DAY 3

Amsterdam to Berlin

After breakfast, we will make our way to the largest railway station in Amsterdam to start our train journey to Germany. Sit back and soak up the scenery as the landscape transforms as we move into a new country. Upon arrival and after checking into our hotel in Berlin, we will venture out for a guided tour. With such a rich history there is so much to experience including stops at the Brandenburg Gate, the Berlin Wall and Checkpoint Charlie to name a few! Our dinner tonight is at a traditional German beer hall. Prost!

DAY 4

Berlin Free Day

Berlin’s turbulent history has certainly shaped it into what it is today, and this city has history and so much more to offer travellers! With a vibrant art scene and modern landmarks, you will be spoiled for choice with how to spend your free day. Why not visit Museum Island or experience a 360-degree view of the city from the Berlin TV Tower? Another great option is to visit the 1,316 metres long East Side Gallery’s paintings as you stroll along the Berlin Wall. Enjoy some Currywurst for lunch, one of the signature fast food dishes of Berlin.

DAY 5

Berlin - Dresden - Prague

It's time to rock the rails again as our European train journey continues. Today’s itinerary is jam-packed and kicks off with a morning visit to Dresden. Embark on an orientation tour of Dresden and see the Dresden Castle and the Frauenkirche with its grand dome before exploring the city on your own. Later, continue on to Prague, the Czech Republic’s beautiful capital city which is renowned the world over for its awe-inspiring Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architecture. Tonight, share a traditional Czech dinner with the group and look forward to tasting delicious and hearty local cuisine. Be sure to give that famous Czech beer a try!

DAY 6

Prague

The cobblestoned streets of Prague will be our playground today! Begin the day with a guided tour of the “City of a Hundred Spires”. See the well-preserved castles and cathedrals and fall in love with life again on the dreamy bridges across the Vltava River. Your guide will tell you more about the history of the city and show you sights like Prague Castle and the famous Charles Bridge. This afternoon you will have free time to do exactly as you please. Do as much or as little as your heart desires but whatever you do, be sure to make a memory of it!

DAY 7

Prague - Vienna

Our train tour continues and it is onwards to the capital of Austria today. Intellectuals and artists like Mozart, Beethoven and Freud helped shape the legacy of what is known as Europe’s cultural capital. The guided tour of Vienna will showcase the beauty of this enchanting city. Be charmed by the beautiful architecture of St Stephen’s Cathedral and the Vienna State Opera. Our dinner setting tonight is a triple-level cellar dating back to the Romanesque and Gothic periods!

DAY 8

Vienna Free Day

Continue your exploration in Vienna as today is yours to spend as you see fit. One of the most popular “to do'' options is an in-depth visit to Schonbrunn Palace. The palace offers a look into the history, interests and taste of the Hapsburg rulers as this was their main summer residence. The lavish and extravagant interior of the palace is really something to behold, and the gardens are an enchanting continuation of the lavish palace.

DAY 9

Vienna Free Day

By now you will have ticked off some of the major travel bucket-list items in Vienna. So, today it is time to do as the locals do! Grab a coffee and a slice of Sachertorte or apple strudel. Visit one of the main squares and immerse yourself in the local culture and music. For an extraordinary culinary experience, the Vienna Naschmarkt offers fruit, vegetables, delicacies and many restaurant options; this spot is very popular with locals. Alternatively, add another country to the list and join the day trip to Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia! This charming capital is known as Vienna’s twin city and features incredible architecture.

DAY 9

Vienna - Budapest

Say Auf Wiedersehen to Vienna and hello to Hungary as the group boards the train to Budapest, Hungary’s enchanting capital city. Arrive and embark on a guided walking tour of Budapest’s Castle district. Learn more about how this city evolved on the banks of the Danube River. Afterwards, enjoy free time to experience the sights and sounds on your own. Tonight, get a taste of local Hungarian cuisine as the group will enjoy an included dinner at a local restaurant.

DAY 10

Budapest Free Day

Budapest is said to be one of the most photogenic cities in Europe. Architectural wonders like the Parliament Building and a collection of stunning basilicas make for a very dramatic skyline that simply begs to be adored (and photographed of course). Why not visit one of the city’s thermal baths on your free day? Budapest is known as the “City of Spas” as over 100 natural thermal springs bubble up beneath the city’s foundations. The Széchenyi Baths in City Park are perhaps the most well-known. Why not end the day with a memorable dinner cruise along the Danube? The lights of Budapest by night are truly a sight to behold!

DAY 11

End of tour in Budapest, Fly to Australia

This morning, our European rail tour from Amsterdam to Budapest comes to an end. Please make your way to the airport in time for your return flights to Australia. We hope you have enjoyed your adventure!

More about Austria

Officially known as the Republic of Austria, there's a lot more to discover about this landlocked European country than schnitzel, strudel and the Sound of Music, but that's still part of the fun. Bordered by the Czech Republic, Germany, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Italy, Switzerland and Liechtenstein, you can understand why Austria is so culturally rich. There are a couple of things you might not know about Austrians, like they are the top recyclers in the world, they love their coffee and enjoy a rich coffee house culture, plus, much like Mexico, they celebrate death and there's even a funeral museum in Vienna. From fine arts to classical music and historic monuments, there's much to experience in Austria!

More about Czech Republic

The Czech Republic is located right in the middle of Europe. Traditionally it was segmented into three lands,Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia in the south, and since 2016 it adopted the shortened name of Czechia. It ranks amongst the top ten safest countries in the world to live and happens to have the most castles in Europe. In fact, in the capital city of Prague you'll find the largest ancient castle in the world. Once the seat of power for kings and emperors, today Prague Castle is the official office of the President of the Czech Republic.

More about Germany

Germany is one of the most densely populated counties in the world, but it doesn't feel that way thanks to its forested mountains, magnificent rivers and well-planned cities. Berlin is a vibrant capital with a lively art scene and cafe culture. Munich is renowned for its annual Oktoberfest beer festival and Frankfurt is a fascinating blend of historic buildings and modern skyscrapers. Cruising the mighty Danube River you'll experience the charm of regional villages and rich culture of cities like Cologne and Nuremberg. There's so much to discover about this country that has its own strong personality as well as influences from its nine neighbouring countries.

More about Hungary

The landlocked country of Hungary shares its borders with Austria, Croatia, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Ukraine. The capital of Budapest is a great city to explore, with its medieval Castle Hill, Fisherman's Bastion and impressive Parliament Building. It's split by the Danube River and many European river cruises either start of end in Budapest. And if you're wondering, Hungarian goulash really is from Hungary. The tasty soup made from beef and vegetables and flavoured with paprika is known locally as Gulyásleves (gulyás is herdsman and leves is soup in Hungarian); because it originates from a dish cooked by the cattlemen of the Great Hungarian Plain.

More about Netherlands

Think of the Netherlands and immediately tulips, windmills and canal cruises in Amsterdam spring to mind. All this is true, and even more delightful in real life! The capital of Amsterdam is home to the impressive Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum. It's a great city to explore by bike, thanks to the extensive bike paths and lack of hills, and for a truly local experience you can try herring from a food cart vendor, but you might want to wash it down with a beer at a historic brewery. Also, if you're wondering whether you should call it 'the Netherlands' or 'Holland', the Netherlands covers the country's 12 provinces, and Holland is an area that consists of two provinces. In January 2020 the Dutch government officially dropped the nickname ‘Holland’ and now refers to itself as The Netherlands.
This special deal offers an escorted rail tour that showcases the best of Europe in an unforgettable way. Travel from Amsterdam to Budapest via Berlin, Prague and Vienna.
